Why enter an award?
Testimonials from previous BIAZA Award winners
"The BIAZA Awards offer a great opportunity to showcase the incredibly valuable work done by your institution, and this brings a range of benefits. The awards are prestigious and, here at Bristol Zoo, those departments putting together the applications feel proud if they are successful. We use this opportunity of an award to say thank you to those teams, and the zoo as a whole benefits.
Furthermore, awards provide a great opportunity for external PR. It enables you to talk to a wider audience about the often unseen work of the institution, such as education programmes, research and conservation. This helps to build a good relationship with local media and enhances the public profile of an organisation that is good for the community, and one in which the local community can feel pride.
This inevitably gives rise to support, much of which cannot be quantified, but is nevertheless there."

"Over the past 3 years, Shepreth Wildlife Park has entered in the BIAZA Education, Marketing and Zoo Enclosure award categories.
The categories have been chosen based on particular successes the wildlife park has achieved at the time of the award process. Though it can sometimes seem time-consuming to enter into the BIAZA awards, it is actually quite a straight forward process, and once you start looking for the evidence you find most of it is very accessible and it is simply just a case of putting it all together and summarising your achievements.
I personally decided to enter our first award, as I had recently been promoted to manage the collection, which put me in a charge of the areas I entered the awards into.I am proud of my team and what they have all achieved and I wanted them to know this. I thought receiving an accolade beyond Shepreth's own praise, and from the zoo industry itself would give them an immense sense of personal achievement, and the collection they work at.
In addition to boosting staff morale, the awards have the added bonus of local and national publicity. They are also a superb way to highlight the good work of our collection to our regular visitors, though our social media and enews, as well as attracting new visitors by advertising the award on our website.
Finally, the education awards have been a tremendous asset to pushing both our on-site education sessions, as well as our outreach programme, referring to our sessions now as 'award winning'.
We would highly recommend entering the BIAZA awards, if not for the lavish Awards ceremony itself, but to simply remind yourself, your staff and visitors what a great place you are!"
