Failing to fully consider accessibility can be a greatly missed opportunity for zoos and aquariums. Organisations from all sectors can be too quick to categorise service provision for disabled customers as merely a legal business obligation rather than an opportunity for excellence; many access improvements result in an inclusive service for all, increasing footfall and sales. The Deep would like to share how it has strategically managed accessibility resulting in good practice and positive visitor experiences. Through practical examples, Louise will explain how employee confidence and engagement has grown, alongside excellence in service delivery, customer feedback and commercial expansion through audience reach and new markets.
Louise Kirby, MSc, Chartered MCIPD, Director of Operations & People, is responsible for HR and commercial activities at The Deep in Hull. Louise has worked at The Deep since it was first built to promote inner-city regeneration and she recalls being determined that as many people as possible would enjoy the attraction. Providing inclusive tourism for all is key to this aspiration. Having managed customer service to deliver over 8 million visits since 2002, and as a champion of service excellence, people development and accessible tourism, Louise delights in raising aspirations and achievements.
