Regional Education Meetings
The chance to share best practices, ideas and experiences is invaluable to BIAZA zoo educators. To help facilitate this, the UK is divided up into a series of regions.
Each region has a regional coordinator who is a member of the Learning & Volunteering Committee (see committees) and has the task of organizing regional meetings between collections.
These meetings are held 2-3 times per year (time of year varies depending on the region) with the location moving between collections in that region.
Meetings offer the opportunity to meet with other zoo educators, discuss relevant topics, talk through new ideas, find out what other collections are doing and what works for them and enhance professional development. Some meetings even offer training sessions.
Meetings are designed to be an opportunity for professional development and suggestions of contents for meetings are always welcomed.
Zoo educators from BIAZA collections are welcome to attend meetings in their region or in other regions free of charge.
Collections within a region are advised of the date of meetings in their region. Collections from outside of the region can find out dates by contacting the relevant regional co-ordinator, looking on the events page of the website or on the back of BIAZA News magazine.
Regional co-ordinator contacts:
Southern region - James Woodward from Drusillas Park
Middle Eastern Region - Rachel Haydon from ZSL
South Western Region - Catherine Addison from Paignton Zoo
Northern Region - Natalie Ward from Blackpool Zoo
Far North Region - currently vacant
For any information about meetings or other regional opportunities, please contact the relevant regional co-ordinators.
