BIAZA runs and supports a number of campaigns.

By having a collaborative, united effort, British and Irish zoos and aquariums are able to have much more of an effect on species in the wild. We also work to raise awareness of the countless conservation, education and research contributions our members undertake.

National Tree Week

24th - 30th Nov 2026

Plants are increasingly becoming inseparable to zoos; not only are they planted in habitats to create luscious areas for the animals, but create gorgeous green spaces for visitors. In conservation, plants are absolutely necessary to support ecosystems and mitigate the affects of climate change.  For the first time, we're highlighting how zoos/aquariums are dedicated to plants this National Tree Week. BIAZA Glow Worm Patrol

Glow worms: they're beetles as bright as LEDs, and more widespread than you might think! BIAZA Glow Worm Patrol is a campaign to get zoos and aquariums searching for populations of these enigmatic insects.   We're working with the UK Glow Worm Survey, which has been running since 1990, and gathers data about a fascinating insect that most people don’t even realise exists in Britain. Project DUNG

Did you know the UK is home to over 50 species of dung beetles? Yet, these unsung heroes of the ecosystem are in trouble, with around 25% considered nationally rare or threatened and four species lost in the last 50 years. Where's Harvey?

BIAZA’s Harvest Mouse Focus Group, which works to support BIAZA members in boosting welfare for harvest mice, is now partnering with the UK Mammal Society to launch this new conservation campaign. Scimitar-Horned Oryx Day

World Autism Acceptance Campaign

29th Mar - 4th Apr 2027

We are excited to repeat the BIAZA World Autism Acceptance Campaign for 2026, taking place 29 Mar - 4 Apr. During the week, we'll be encouraging as many of our members as possible to take part by holding some form of inclusive, SEN friendly event at their site. BIAZA members can now sign up for the Autumn Bioblitz (21-27 Sep 2026) Register here BIAZA Spotted on Site is a campaign for our members in collaboration with iNaturalistUK and the National Biodiversity Network Trust (NBN Trust).
