New Foundation Session
New Foundation Session from Marwell Wildlife
A new programme for children just starting school
Our plan with this project was to develop special teaching sessions for foundation stage children. This was in response to both Education Officers themselves and teachers’ feedback.
Our objectives were to contact and work with local foundation stage teachers, look at relevant published material available, to plan, develop and trial a session with local children and then to extend and offer the session to all foundation stage children visiting the zoo.
Contact was made with a local school and an Education Officer visited the school and observed the children in lessons. Working with teachers from this school a session was developed and trialled. This was successful and so a demonstration and notes were given to other Education Officers and they also observed sessions taking place.
All Education Officers then used this session style when teaching foundation stage children. Teachers were given evaluation forms to return and Education Officers asked to give feedback on how they felt the session worked.
So far only 12 teacher evaluations have been received, but all are extremely positive. Education Officers are also extremely positive.
Evaluation will continue to take place and if needed changes made to the session.
