Collaboration to Provide Students with a Zoo Related Career Experience
Redmoor zoo careers week
Redmoor Zoo Week saw the collaboration of Twycross Zoo and Redmoor High School in Leicestershire to provide students, aged 13-14 years old, with the opportunity to experience zoo related careers, understand the importance of zoos and gain a basic understanding of animal welfare. The week was part of the school's "Active Learning Week" where students were allowed to choose freely from a number of activities that they would like to participate in.
This involved using a variety of teaching methods from classroom based lessons and exercises to activities that were completed around the site. The approach of "learn, create and observe" was taken to promote inclusivity and enable all students within the considerably mixed ability group to excel and gain a sense of achievement.
A variety of methods were used to gather data from the students, ranging from quantitative questionnaires to qualitative analysis of participant diaries. Together, these methods showed that Redmoor Zoo Week did succeed in its aims.
