BioBlitz

BIAZA BioBlitz is an ongoing campaign, supporting our members in carrying out their own BioBlitz events throughout the year.

A BioBlitz is an event that can engage any number of enthusiastic individuals with biodiversity, allowing them to get hands-on in wildlife surveying and monitoring.  It can take the form of a simple pond dipping session, bug safari, or plant recording walk, for example.  It could involve out-of –hours events like bat detecting or moth trapping, or it could be a full-scale, 24 hour event, encompassing a whole range of surveys, and providing a really complete snapshot of the wildlife on our own doorsteps!

Whatever the size and scope of a BioBlitz event, it can produce valuable data which can be submitted to local and national data collection centres.  Since 2012 BIAZA members have recorded over 1000 plant species and and 2000 wild animal species on our sites! Recent star-finds have included great green bush crickets, wolf spiders, elephant hawk-moths and nocturnal visitors including badgers, owls and bats.

If you will be running a BioBlitz event then please let us know at [email protected] – we’d love to support you on social media and in our publications, and add your data to our growing list of species on our sites.

Brand your resources with the BIAZA BioBlitz Logo and BioBlitz banner and advertise your event with our editable BioBlitz poster which you can find on the campaign resoures page on the member's dashboard.

Register your event with the Bristol Natural History Consortium to access more free supporting resources. Don't forget to show your involvement on social media using the hashtag #BIAZABioBlitz on Twitter and Facebook
