Many animal collections are lucky enough to have dedicated teams for reptiles and amphibians, and staff with specialist training.  The rest often have a handful of snakes, bearded dragons, tree frogs, and the odd tortoise tacked on to other animal sections.  This workshop is aimed at those animal keepers in the second category, those who don't have much previous experience or training but would like to know that they are providing the best set up, nutrition and husbandry to the few common species of herptile that they are responsible for.  They might make popular pets but often getting the optimum UV requirements, heating gradient and feeding techniques, are more complex than expected.

Content to include:

  • Importance of correct lighting (UV)
  • Managing live food
  • Handling and restraint
  • Tortoise browse/wildflowers.
  • Enclosure design.
  • Basic veterinary skills

This venue has limited capacity and we expect high demand for tickets, so will therefore be open to animal keepers only.   Bookings will not be confirmed unless online registration is completed and full payment has been made.

Cost for ABWAK members £20,

Members of BIAZA collections £30,

Non-members also welcome £40.

Refreshments and lunch are included in the price.
