Finding the Right Words: Starting discussions on culturally inclusive interpretation (30th July, 12.30-13.30 BST, Online)
Language inclusivity and sensitivity are crucial for fostering accessibility, respect, and engagement with increasingly diverse audiences. The Rethinking Zoo Interpretation Network is a collective of UK-based zoo educators interested in inclusivity in zoo interpretation. We are organising a one-hour workshop to hold space for open and respectful discussion about the challenges zoo educators face when reviewing terminology. We hope to prompt discussion with a brief talk on language sensitivity in cultural and historical contexts, including examples of outdated terms and possible alternatives, so that together we can begin to identify approaches towards non-exclusionary terminology.
This workshop is for members of the Rethinking Zoo Interpretation Network. If you're interested in joining please complete this form and we'll be in touch: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/F2VhMC1PJd
