'Towards decolonial approaches in zoo interpretation'

Friday 28 February (10-1pm) ONLINE

This half-day, online symposium will host practitioners involved in the field of decolonial theory and practice as well as a variety of staff working in wildlife centres and zoos, from education to conservation teams, and beyond. With the purpose of creating a dialogic space for sharing experiences and collaborative learning, it will include short presentations of current projects and future plans developed around EDI values with potential to address colonial legacies. The academic panel will provide further case studies and transferable good practice examples as well as a resource package for offering further guidance and supporting independent research. It will be of interest to anyone working with signage and displays, conservation and education initiatives, and research. You will hear about biases in language, content, representation, and participation and learn about more inclusive and ethical approaches. You will also get to know more BIAZA members with similar experiences and interests, contributing to create a collaborative network for increasing the accessibility of global knowledge.
