Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens is thrilled to announce the arrival of Raja, a magnificent two-year-old male Sumatran Tiger who has travelled from Frankfurt Zoo in Germany to join us here in Norfolk.
Raja's move is part of the global species management programme for Sumatran Tigers, a critically endangered species with fewer than 400 individuals left in the wild. His arrival marks a significant step in the continued efforts to protect and conserve this iconic species.
Raja is settling in well to his new home and has already made a big impression on the animal care team with his inquisitive nature and confident character. He will be joined later this year by a female Sumatran Tiger as part of a carefully planned breeding programme to help safeguard the future of this species.
His arrival has been eagerly anticipated by visitors and staff alike, following the sad loss of Kubu, in March 2025. Raja represents an exciting new chapter for our tiger habitat.
“We’re delighted to welcome Raja to the Thrigby family,” said Scott Bird, Zoological Director of Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens. “He’s a beautiful young tiger and a fantastic ambassador for his species. We’re incredibly grateful to our supporters for their patience and can’t wait for them to meet him.”
Visitors will have the opportunity to see Raja as he explores his new surroundings. He may choose to spend more time in the off-show areas whilst he gets used to his new surroundings so please be patient. We look forward to sharing updates on his journey as he settles in.
