Abstract Submission Guidelines for Authors
All abstracts should be submitted using the template provided, and returned via email to Dr. Andrew Mooney ([email protected]). Abstract submissions close at 17:00 on 29th March.
The following guidelines are designed to help you prepare a strong abstract that will meet the evaluation criteria used by reviewers. Be sure to clearly address each of the following aspects in your abstract to ensure your research is presented clearly, logically, and with strong potential impact.
1. Rationale: The rationale of your research should clearly demonstrate the purpose of your study and the importance of the issue being investigated. It should indicate how your research advances existing knowledge or addresses an important gap.
2. Specific Aims: Your abstract should present clear, specific research questions or hypotheses that align with achievable aims. It is crucial that these aims are both focused and relevant to your research objectives.
3. Methodology: Your methodology should be described in sufficient detail (e.g. data collection, time frames, analyses), and an ethical statement should be included if applicable (not part of the word count).
4. Results and Interpretation: Your abstract should present the results (or expected outcomes) of your research clearly and demonstrate how these lead to conclusions and/or recommendations.
5. Potential Impact: Your abstract should clearly describe the potential impact of your research, both in terms of practical application to zoo or aquarium practice and/or the broader academic field. Studies may be conducted in zoos, aquariums, in the wild, or in other settings; however, a clear connection to a named zoo or aquarium, or relevance to the BIAZA membership, should be explicitly stated.
Presentation Policy: Authors may be included on multiple abstract submissions. However, regardless of how many abstracts are accepted, each individual may deliver only one oral presentation. Additional accepted abstracts with the same lead author may be assigned to poster presentations at the discretion of the review committee.
