We introduced Chester Zoo’s Schools Takeover Day at the BIAZA Educators Conference in November and gave a call to action for other Zoo’s to host one on the same day!
Schools Takeover Day is a wonderful opportunity for young people to take over our education programme for the day, and to talk about the conservation and sustainability issues that matter to them. Students create their own activities for the day and engage with our visitors, giving them a voice for wildlife.
Takeover Day doesn't have to just be for schools however, it could also be an opportunity to showcase your work with other groups you work with, such as community or youth groups. We will be hosting our event on 1st July, but if this date isn't suitable for your organisation, you can still take part by hosting on a nearby date!
In this online session, we will share our own experiences of recruiting schools and overcoming the logistical challenges of holding the event. Our aim is to inspire your own vision of Takeover Day and to discuss how it can work for you.
