The role:

To manage all aspects of the daily operation of the Living Collection Department animal sections (based at Highland Wildlife Park) and defining, developing, and recommending appropriate projects, plans and policies, contributing to the formulation of Living Collection Department strategies; advancing the visitor experience and in support of  mission and aims of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS).

Some of the things you’ll do:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Living Collection Dept (Highland Wildlife Park) Animal Sections, collaborating with other departments to ensure delivery to the required standards and within budget.
  • Ensure each team has the skills, systems and procedures which are appropriate to their particular operation or service to meet or exceed the needs of their stakeholders including our visitors.
  • Maintaining a culture which ensures our visitors receive a personal, knowledgeable, and positive level of service (from Living collections) daily.
  • Assist in setting budgets and manage resources to work within agreed limits.
  • Assist with the licensing approval process and liaise with appropriate agencies, such as, the Animal Health Office and DEFRA.
  • Represent RZSS in national and international zoo representative forums for the benefit of the RZSS e.g. EAZA, BIAZA., particularly relating to key responsibilities of animal welfare and population management – as required.

What we’re looking for:

  • Degree or equivalent level animal/zoology related qualification or equivalent experience
  • Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquaria Animals (DMZAA) or equivalent qualification
  • Knowledge and understanding of Zoological legislation and best practice
  • Working knowledge of ZIMS and other zoo related management systems
  • Full UK driving licence
