Zookeeper

Flamingo Land Zoo is looking for a zookeeper to join our team.  The successful candidate will work within a variety of areas of the zoo with a number of species in a permanent role, once a probation period is completed. Flamingo Land is a popular family run theme park and zoo in rural North Yorkshire, and is a member of BIAZA, EAZA and WAZA. 

 

The successful candidate will be working as a general zookeeper and will be expected to work in all areas of the zoo.  For this role paid experience is preferred, but is not essential.  The successful candidate will receive any training needed to carry out the role.

 

All of our zookeepers are encouraged to participate in a range of activities which include research and environmental enrichment which helps staff improve and update their skills.  The successful candidate must possess a relevant qualification and should be able to demonstrate work experience in the animal care industry. A drivers licence is preferred. 

 

The successful candidate will be expected to be very personable as there is a requirement to communicate well with visitors, including delivering public talks and general good customer service. The successful candidate should also be enthusiastic, a good team player and be able to use the correct chain of command whilst doing so.  Weekend work and working on bank holidays may be expected and some early starts and late finishes as part of the role.
