Animal Keeper

Come and join our team of dedicated keepers who look after the animals in our care and work hard to ensure their habitats are immaculately presented in the unique environment of this popular Theme Park and Home of Peppa Pig World. 

This is a practical ‘hands on’ role where you will need to have previous experience working in the zoo community, preferably with a wide variety of taxa. You will be expected to work either on your own under your own initiative or as part of a team under the direction of a senior person. The work can be physically demanding so a level of fitness is important.

Key qualities:

• Minimum of 2 years working with zoo animals within the zoo sector.
• Hold an animal management qualification.
• Completion of DMZAA would be an advantage.
• Practical experience of animal training would be advantageous.
• Be reliable with good timekeeping and attendance.
• Have a willingness to learn.
• Understand and follow instructions.
• Be a team player that communicates effectively with colleagues.
• Be safety conscious with an eye for detail.
• Remain calm under pressure.

What you'll be doing:

• Assist with the daily care of a variety of taxa, including food preparation and feeding, general husbandry and maintenance of habitats, enrichment and training.
• Assist with medication administration and record keeping.
• Assist with Keeper talks and other presentations.
• Active participation in CPD to enhance and build a professional portfolio of skills and experience.
• Supporting Junior members of the team.

You will be required to work a 45 hour week, five days out of seven with weekend and bank holiday working on a rota basis. Hours of work will normally be 7.30 am – 5.00 pm with 30 minutes for lunch. Any hours worked in excess of 45 hours per week will be paid at overtime rate.

Flexibility is required in order to meet peak and off-peak demands of the business.
