The Lakes Aquarium are looking for a confident, enthusiastic, and proactive aquarist who can focus on our education and conservation initiatives. Prior experience in an aquarium or zoo setting working with the education team is preferred, as the successful candidate will be leading all educational activities on site.

Located at the Southern tip of Lake Windermere in the Lake District, the aquarium is home to a wide variety of species including fish, reptiles, mammals and invertebrates. 

The successful candidate will be required to oversee and manage all aspects relating to the education and conservation in the aquarium, in line with all zoo licensing regulations and BIAZA guidelines. Part of the role will also include assisting the animal team with husbandry, welfare, record keeping, and life support maintenance. The role is key to ensuring the delivery of daily education programs and conservation activities, whilst striving to provide the highest possible standards of guest satisfaction. The role predominantly includes developing and implementing conservation projects to protect and monitor native species and habitats, overseeing and leading the aquarium’s talk and tour structure, and ensuring all site interpretation and signage is up to date.

The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications in a Science-related subject and experience in education and conservation – ideally in an animal care setting. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills are key as the role involves daily talks and guest interaction. Excellent customer service and a passion for education and conservation is paramount for this role, the candidate will also be required to hold a current driving license.

This is a salaried position (£24,246 PA) and includes weekend and bank holiday working, as well as covering 24-hour on-call duties (done on a rota basis).
