Here at Call of the Wild Zoo we currently have a fantastic opportunity to join our keeper team, working primarily on our mammal section as an experienced/senior keeper. The ideal candidate for this position is an enthusiastic, highly motivated and reliable individual, someone who can work effectively by themselves as well as the other members of the mammal and wider keeper team.
The successful candidate will be working with a variety of different species, including but not limited to, colobus monkeys, variety of lemur species, servals, African penguins and greater flamingos, so previous experience of these animals would be beneficial. Daily routines and tasks to be undertaken include daily husbandry tasks, enclosure maintenance, public experiences, educational talks. It is an exciting time to join the team as we are currently under going quite a big development in the zoo, building a new Asia section, building enclosures for some species we already currently have at the zoo as well as new species we are looking to bring in, clouded leopards and black hornbills. With more improvements planned for the coming years also.
An ideal candidate would have minimum 3 years experience working in a zoo environment previously, have exceptional time keeping skills and able to priorities their daily routines. An attention for detail is crucial for this role as there is a lot of observations and record keeping that needs to be undertaken. The ability to do public educational talks and confidently speaking to the public answering questions is also vital. This is a physically demanding role that involves a lot of heavy lifting, bending and kneeling down, as well as other labour intensive tasks, so the ideal candidate must be physically fit and able to complete these tasks.
This position is full time, 5 days a week working 40 hours over the course of the week. The candidate will expect to work on a flexible rota including bank holidays and weekends. Starting salary for this role is £24,315. The successful candidate will be entitled to 28 days of annual leave over the year from January to December and holiday is to be taken out of school holidays, but there are exemptions under managements discretion.
