CONTEXT:
This is an unpaid post for which you must have institutional support, and you or your collection must be a BIAZA member.
The post is within the BIAZA Giraffid Subgroup (GSG) which falls under the BIAZA Mammal Working Group (MWG).
OUR OBJECTIVES:
- To identify key areas of giraffid husbandry and welfare where ongoing development or improvement is required.
- To develop and communicate best practice in respect of giraffid care and welfare.
- To inspire and empower keepers of all ages and experiences to raise husbandry and welfare standards for giraffids managed in captivity.
- To collaborate in the research of all aspects of giraffid husbandry, welfare and conservation working with relevant stakeholders.
- To provide a link within the giraffid management community through the delivery of workshops, resources, and training in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
ROLE SUMMARY:
- Support the GSG Chair in the group’s activities.
- Help ensure that a high quality, efficient and helpful service is provided to BIAZA members.
- Support the GSG Chair in managing the operation of the GSG by implementing and ensuring that efficient and affective operational procedures are in place.
- Help develop the future direction of the GSG.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Chair in developing and communicating best practice in respect of giraffid care and welfare.
- Support the Chair in establishing achievable objectives and evaluating their success annually.
- Contribute to the workload so it is evenly shared between the GSG members.
- Represent the GSG at relevant meetings and conferences when the Chair is not available.
- Remain up to date on current relevant issues at EAZA level and help report this information to the GSG and MWG as appropriate.
- Actively participate in GSG meetings, help prepare GSG reports and presentations.
- Be available for a workshop once a year.
- Support the Chair in producing ideas and plans for future GSG work.
- Be a good ambassador for BIAZA and the GSG.
