Location: Chessington World of Adventures Resort, Surrey, KT9 2NE
We are currently recruiting for a Zoo Keeper for our Presentations team. This section cares for a variety of species, including California sea lions, humboldt penguins, flamingos, ground hornbill, owls, parrots, and cranes amongst others. This position will be a dual role, with responsibilities divided between birds and sea lions: three days per week will be dedicated to working with birds, and two days per week will focus on sea lions.
You will be responsible for carrying out and overseeing the daily husbandry and training of the animals on the section including the use of positive-reinforcement techniques, enclosure cleaning, diet preparation, record keeping and site maintenance.
Other duties will include planning, evaluating, and executing environmental enrichment for the animals under your care and delivering first-class animal talks and demonstrations and other activities to provide our Adventurers with memorable, educational, experiences.
Qualificaitons & Experience
- A minimum of three years’ experience working in a zoo environment
- Demonstrable skills in positive reinforcement training are essential
- Excellent time management and good organisational skills
- DMZAA or equivalent qualification would be desirable
- Experience in the training of free flight Birds is preferable
- Experience in the training of Marine Mammals is preferable
- A good understanding and experience in working with a broad range of taxa
- Ability to stay focused and in control under pressure
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills
- Experience in delivering animal talks and demonstrations
