BIAZA Reptile and Amphibian Working Group (RAWG) Native Species Liaison Officer

CONTEXT:

This is an unpaid post for which you must have institutional support and your collection must be a BIAZA member. The post is within RAWG which is part of The British & Irish Association of Zoos & Aquaria’s (BIAZA) Species Advisory Committee (SAC). As Native Species Liaison Officer, you will report to the Chair and Vice-chair of RAWG.

ROLE SUMMARY: The objectives are to:

  • RAWG Native Species liaison officer will be a member of the RAWG steering committee
  • Support the Native Species Working Group (NSWG) and act as the link between them and RAWG
  • Attend RAWG meetings wherever possible
  • Attend NSWG meetings wherever possible
  • Ensure that messages are filtered to the two working groups about native species work/projects
  • Develop a focus group for the native herpetofauna within RAWG community
  • Develop native herpetofauna initiatives for BIAZA
  • Promote our native herpetofauna through RAWG meeting
  • Effectively and efficiently work as an individual and within a team

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To fully discuss everything, with the Chair and Vice Chair, before implementation
  • Be aware of good practice in respect of animal welfare and zoo legislation
  • When requested, to liaise with the BIAZA Office, the chair of the SAC and other members of the SAC
  • To assist in the management of the RAWG Facebook page
  • Through RAWG actively support and aid BIAZA’s education, sustainability, research, conservation committees and the BIAZA Office
  • To take an active role in answering enquiries about RAWG whenever necessary
  • To assist, when requested, in dealing with all general enquiries, administration and paper work relating to the working group in a timely, professional and organized manner
  • To assist, when requested, with the organisation of workshops, meetings and presentations for RAWG meetings and conferences
  • To assist in the aims of the BIAZA strategy though the aims of the SAC:-
  • Working group evaluation and monitoring of relevant member activity
  • Increase number and communication of members participating in working group activities
  • Introduce training and development as key activity for working groups
  • Coordinate working group activities with other BIAZA committees and focus groups
  • Publicise working group activities
  • To assist on developing ideas and plans for the future direction & development of the working group
