Zoo Ranger Position - Seasonal

(average 40 hours per week)

Flamingo Land offers a theme park, zoo and holiday village ensuring that our visitors have a wide range of activities to engage with during their stay. We are a WAZA, EAZA and BIAZA member organisation and are committed to promoting conservation education to all of our guests.

We are looking for a new team member to join our award winning conservation education team to assist in the delivery of both formal and informal education sessions. The role includes teaching groups of all ages and abilities through workshops and tours. In addition to formal lessons the team is responsible for animal feeds and talks, animal walkthroughs, running events and a range of out of hours activities including our popular ‘walk on the wild side’ behind the scenes tours. Basic animal husbandry is involved but it is primarily a public based education role. Oppurtunities will arise for zoo rangers to come up with their own educational events and activities during the season.

Due to the nature of our business the successful candidate will be expected to work evenings, bank holidays and weekends as required. This position is subject to a DBS check. Wage currently set at £11.50 an hour for those aged 21 and over but can change based on the national minimum wage. This seasonal position primarily runs from March to November which when the park is fully open.

The successful candidate will have:

· A zoology degree or equivalent and a wide ranging knowledge about the natural world and animal behaviour

· Outstanding communication and presentation skills

· Ability to create resources and to use computer packages such as Microsoft Office and Canva 

· Excellent time management

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Passionate about the mission of zoos as centres of education and conservation

 

Desired, but not essential skills include:

· Experience working in informal education settings preferably a zoo or conservation organisation

·Experience delivering animal handling experiences

·Experience teaching a wide range of age groups

·Experience of basic animal husbandry

·Presenting/drama skills

·Full Valid Driving Licence
