BIAZA Mammal Working Group - Ungulate Subgroup Co-Chair
The Ungulate Subgroup is one of the small teams that make up the BIAZA Mammal Working Group (MWG). The Mammal Working Group sits under the BIAZA Species Advisory Committee (SAC).
The Species Advisory Committee objectives are:
- Setting, promoting and upholding sector specific standards
- Continuously advancing standards for animal welfare
- Harnessing the expertise, evidence and enthusiasm of our members to inform BIAZA policy work
- Celebrating best practice and encouraging knowledge sharing amongst BIAZA members
Ungulate Subgroup Co-Chair Role:
This is an unpaid post for which you must have institutional support and your zoo must be a BIAZA member.
The Ungulate Subgroup (USG) aims to support the MWG/SAC through the following objectives:
- Support the education of ungulate keepers within BIAZA zoos
- Promote advances in the husbandry of ungulate species within BIAZA zoos
- Raise awareness of conservation issues facing ungulate species in-situ
- Contribute to and support the availability of husbandry resources relating to ungulate species
- Facilitate and encourage cooperation and collaboration with other BIAZA Committees and Working Groups
The USG aim to implement these objectives by:
- Supporting the MWG Chair and Vice Chair in working with the BIAZA Office to respond to the changing needs of the membership. This involves having a good awareness of good practice in respect of animal welfare and zoo legislation.
- Attending bi-annual MWG committee meetings (one of which coincides with the annual Mammal Working Group conference). Other subgroup meetings will be held virtually.
- Contributing to relevant BIAZA communications and resources e.g., articles for the BIAZA website/BiteSize newsletter, content for the MWG Facebook page, production and review of care sheets and best practice guidance, contribute to the organisation of workshops and presentations for MWG meetings and conferences.
