Job Title: Dive Officer

Location: Deep Sea World - Fife

Contract Type: Full Time, 40 hours per week

Working Hours: 5 / 7 days on a rota basis

Salary: £26101.60

Deep Sea World, one of the UK’s leading public aquariums, is seeking a dedicated and safety focused Dive Officer to join our dive team. This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in the maintenance, health and presentation of our diverse marine habitats through the delivery and coordination of our diving activities.

The Dive Officer is responsible for operating a safe and efficient dive operation at the Aquarium, including the management of divers and their training, managing equipment, developing and enforcing safety protocols, and participating in exhibit maintenance, public presentations and dive experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Curator and Displays Supervisor to ensure well maintained exhibits through a regular and organised cleaning and maintenance schedule
  • Assist the Curator and Displays Supervisor with the planning and delivery of feeding schedules in the main tank exhibit.
  • Assist in producing documented Animal Welfare Assessments for all main tank animals
  • Enthuse and motivate the dive team to develop and improve the range of public dive presentations and dive experiences.
  • Communicate to the dive team regarding performance standards, new initiatives, changes in relevant legislation, dive safety protocols and other pertinent dive related issues.
  • Responsible for undertaking recruitment, induction, training and development of dive team in sufficient numbers to meet business needs.
  • Deliver a safe diving experience for both visitors and staff, through meeting health & safety requirements and ensuring dive regulations are followed.
  • To identify, resolve and manage dive related health & safety issues.

This post is full time, including weekend shifts, summer holidays and bank holidays.

Person Specification

Please note the following essential criteria are required to be successful in gaining this post at recruitment and to be able to effectively undertake the duties required.

Essential

  • An understanding of UK HSE and diving at work regulations
  • PADI Dive instructor or equivalent
  • In date HSE medical or confident of passing a dive medical
  • Confident in public speaking
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Leadership management experience
  • Full UK driving license
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Good record keeping skills

Desirable

  • Proactive and able to use own initiative
  • Confident in diving in close proximity with animals
  • First aid training
  • O2 administration
  • Any relevant health & safety certification, such as IOSH, fire officer.
