This year saw the launch of the Accessibility in Action Award, delivered by BIAZA in partnership with Agility Marketing, celebrating the brilliant practical work happening across zoos and aquariums to improve accessibility for visitors.
The quality of submissions was incredibly high, with applications showcasing creative, thoughtful and often low-cost ideas that are making a real difference to visitor experience - from improved signage to sensory considerations and more accessible journeys through sites.
A huge congratulations to this year’s winner, Shaldon Wildlife Trust, and our Highly Commended organisations, WILD Zoological Park and Hawk Conservancy Trust. The judging panel, made up of Anita Waddell from Agility Marketing and Clare Pennington from BIAZA, were particularly impressed by the number of ideas that could easily be replicated across the sector to help make zoos and aquariums more inclusive and welcoming spaces.
Anita Waddell, CEO of Agility Marketing, said:
“We’ve loved the opportunity to partner with BIAZA on the Accessibility in Action Award and hope this is the first of many. It’s a fantastic initiative that shines a light on the brilliant accessibility work happening across the zoo and aquarium sector.”
We’re really excited by the response to this first year and hope to continue growing the award in future - helping share ideas, celebrate good practice and encourage even more accessibility improvements across the BIAZA community.
