Our focus here at Alyalais Protected Falcons Ltd is the breeding of Gyr falcons, Peregrine falcons and Gyr peregrine hybrids. We are a relatively new project established in 2017 now breeding over 200 falcons, a number likely to grow! Our small team consists a mix of full time and part time staff who are very keen to welcome a new full-time member with a passion for birds and falcons.

The salary is to be negotiated upon meeting and based on experience. Onsite accommodation may be available if not local to the area and any training will be happily provided. The job We are looking to recruit a keen and hard-working individual to assist in every aspect of falcon breeding. During the spring and summer months staff work extended hours (including weekends) to cover the necessity of the breeding season (1st March – 31st August) therefore flexibility regarding work schedules is essential. Off season during winter staff work less hours and fewer days following a rota, during these months you will be busy cleaning falcon aviaries and maintaining their health and welfare in preparation for the following season.

Responsibilities

• Daily food preparation.

• Monitoring behaviour via CCTV throughout the breeding period (March – June) with occasional night shifts looking for eggs being laid.

• Rearing newly hatched falcons up to 8 days old before returning to parent birds. • Avicultural record keeping.

• Rearing of Imprint falcons for future breeding.

• Participation in the export of falcons.

• Rehabilitating sick and injured falcons.

• Maintaining high health and welfare standards of breeding stock (cleaning bird baths, cleaning food trays, routine medication).

• General maintenance and cleaning of the facility all year round (cleaning food preparation room, jet washing aviaries and astroturf, grass cutting).

• Aviary cleaning during winter months.

You

Essential

• Highly motivated and hard working with a keen interest in birds.

• Practical experience of falconry and / or breeding birds of prey.

• Practical skills and abilities in manual labour.

• Drivers licence with own vehicle.

Important

• Basic avian knowledge.

• Reliability and good communication.

• Conscientious team player.
