Animal Keeper

Come and join our team of dedicated keepers who work hard to keep our collection of exotic animals well cared for and their environments immaculately presented in the unique environment of this popular Theme Park and Home of Peppa Pig World.

This is a practical ‘hands on’ role where you will need to have previous experience working in a zoological collection or similar establishment, preferably with a wide variety of taxa. You will be expected to work either on your own under your own initiative or as part of a team under the direction of a senior person. The work can be physically demanding so a level of fitness is important.

Key qualities:

• Minimum of 2 years working with zoo animals within a zoological collection or similar establishment.
• Hold an animal management qualification.
• Completion of DMZAA would be an advantage.
• Practical experience of animal training would be advantageous.
• Be reliable with good timekeeping and attendance.
• Have a willingness to learn.
• Be a team player that communicates effectively with colleagues.
• Be safety conscious with an eye for detail.
• Remain calm under pressure.

What you’ll be doing:

• Assist with the daily management and care of all species in your care, including food preparation and feeding, general husbandry and maintenance of enclosures, enrichment and training.
• Assist with medication administration and record keeping.
• Assist with Penguin talks and other presentations.
• Active participation in CPD to enhance and build a professional portfolio of skills and experience.
• Supporting Junior members of the team.

You will be required to work a 45 hour week, five days out of seven with weekend and bank holiday working on a rota basis. Hours of work will normally be 7.30 am – 5.00 pm with 30 minutes for lunch. Any hours worked in excess of 45 hours per week will be paid at overtime rate.

Flexibility is required in order to meet peak and off-peak demands of the business.
