Here at Hertfordshire Zoo, we are excited to offer a new opportunity for an experienced, qualified electrician to join our Building & Maintenance team.

 

The successful candidate will have strong and effective communication skills, be self-motivated, and have the ability to motivate others and work well under pressure. You will be enthusiastic, helpful and have a sense of pride in your work and will have a flexible approach to deal with unknown circumstances as and when they occur. The roles are likely to be challenging but will be incredibly interesting and rewarding.

 

The right person for this job must enjoy working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. You will have early start times and work can involve evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. We’d need you to work to a planned work schedule whilst also being responsive and flexible to ensure the effective and safe operation of all aspects of our Zoos operation. The work involves a lot of walking, lifting and bending, and you will often have to wear waterproof and protective clothing.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Diagnose and repair electrical problems in commercial and domestic electrical systems, single and 3 phase including fault-finding, rewiring, commissioning and monitoring.

·        Conduct routine maintenance and testing, and ensure installations are to manufacturer standards

·        Ensure good quality workmanship which upholds company standards, complies with building codes, and follows safety requirements

·        To be able to work without supervision and make necessary decisions to achieve required outcomes

·        Undertake quality control of electrical works

·        Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems and fire alarms. Inspect electrical components, such as transformers, motors and circuit breakers. Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices. Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools.

·        Specify and Install new supplies to plant or buildings based on project requirements for any new projects across site

·        Look after electrical spares onsite, assess the parts needed for a job and place orders for those parts

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of electrical experience
  • Self-motivated and able to manage own time
  • Excellent communication and people skills with the ability to build strong relationships
  • Reliable and hardworking
  • Awareness of Health & Safety practices

·         Existing Right to Work in the UK (British Citizen, Indefinite Leave to Remain, EEA Citizen with Settled Status or other valid Visa/Work Permit)

·         Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (as Hertfordshire Zoo is not accessible by public transport)

 

Working Conditions

•        Permanent, full-time position; 40 Hours per week, 08.00-17.00 or 09.00-18.00, 5 over 7 days, including at least one weekend day
