We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic candidate with a passion for the natural world, the Education department umbrellas many different sub categories which offer self-development in each area. Areas include: School workshops, Animal Talks, Animal Encounters, Wildlife programmes, Social Media and Marketing, Events, Visitor services and our Retail Store. The ideal candidate will be willing to develop themselves, contribute ideas, be able to work alone and as a team.

 

AIMS OF THE JOB:           

-       To assist the Education Co-ordinator in their role in delivering our conservation message and education strategy

-       To provide excellent customer service to all visitors to the wildlife park

-       To deliver excellent educational workshops to schools

-       Be a confident public speaker and deliver presentations to all audiences

-       Deliver animal encounters to a high standard and follow protocols

-       To ensure that visitor areas are well maintained

-       To manage visitor admissions, gift shop sales and other visitor product sales on a day to day basis

-       Be self-driven and develop skills in all areas within the Education department

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Responsible to  Education Co-ordinator, Animal Science and Conservation Manager and Deputy

 

INTERNAL CONTACTS:

 

Animal Science and Conservation Manager, Deputy Animal Science and Conservation Manager, Education Co-ordinator, Animal Keepers, Keeper / Instructors, Work Experience Students.

 

EXTERNAL CONTACTS:

 

Visitors to the Wildlife Park, possibly Ticketing Software Company, possibly Gift Shop Stockists

 

MAIN TASKS AND DUTIES:

 

·         Delivering education talks and encounters

·         Delivering education workshops and tours to Schools and other education groups visiting the wildlife park

·         Delivering our conservation and sustainability message

·         Ensuring the welfare of our animals, staff and visitors is maintained at a high standard

·         Assisting the Education and Events Coordinator with interpretation and event preparation

·         Have excellent customer service skills for taking visitor admissions and gift shop sales

·         Keeping visitors’ area tidy and presentable

 

As we are also a learning facility, all candidates are expected to:

 

-       Follow health and safety and emergency procedures, and assist members of the public in following emergency procedures if necessary

 

-       Co-operate in the College Appraisal Scheme and subsequently agree an Action Plan and implementation deadlines. Actively participate in self-development activities to facilitate continuous improvement.

 

-       Support all managerial staff maintaining premises, the estate, resources and Centres by reporting problems; following and enforcing good behavioural practices in order that the working environment can be maintained in a cost effective and efficient manner.  Be vigilant when on College or Centre premises, promoting security of buildings and contents.

 

-       Support lecturing and Student Services staff in facilitating the best behaviour and performance of our learners, by challenging undesirable behaviour as appropriate and reporting more serious concerns to a relevant member of staff.

 

-       Act in a friendly and business-like manner in welcoming and assisting the total range of customers and clients at the College or Centre.
