Animal Keeper

Report to: Head of Zoological Operations / Head Keeper   

Duties to include:    

·        Observe the behaviour, health and security of animals and report any problems to the Team Leader or manager, including defects or repairs required to enclosures and relevant departments required to support work needed.  

·        Ensure a high standard of cleanliness in and around animal enclosures, to include: sweeping, mucking out, strimming, grass cutting, management of weeds and vegetation

.        Assist in Enrichment and Training plans

 ·        Assist with the preparation of approved diets and carrying out the correct feeding procedures.  

 ·        Assist in basic record keeping such as keeping enclosure logs and daily recordings up to date  

 ·        Keeping the stock of animal food up to date and ensuring management know when it is getting low    

 ·        Supporting positive visitor experiences by good customer service and professional visitor engagement. To include Keeper Talks and Animal Experiences.   

 ·        Ensuring that safety and emergency procedures are always followed  

·        Any additional duties as required   

·        On-site accommodation possibly available

Skills / Qualifications

·        DMZAA or equivalent desired but not essential

·        Practical skills desired

·        Experience with Domestic Livestock and legislation desirable

·        Pratical experience of animal training would be advantageous

·        Reliable with good time keeping and attendance

·        Knowledge of ZIMS advantageous

·        Able to remain calm under pressure

·        Full UK driving liscense

·        Experience with farm machinery advantages
