Context:
This is an unpaid post for which you must have institutional support and you or your collection should be a BIAZA member.
The post is within the BIAZA ABTWG which falls under the BIAZA Species Advisory Committee (SAC).
Objectives of the ABTWG:
- To support the work of SAC and its taxon working groups.
- To assist BIAZA with the development of relevant BIAZA policies.
- To provide a forum for discussion on issues of animal behavioural modification and management and environmental enrichment.
- To liaise with and disseminate information from external bodies including European Association of Zoos and Aquaria.
- To support and promote the ABTC/BIAZA zoo animal trainer accreditation scheme.
- To advise on and disseminate information on relevant legislative policy, and support BIAZA’s participation in consultation where required.
Bird liaison to the ABTWG Role Summary:
The key objectives of this position are to support the ABTWG in:
- Assisting and supporting the BIAZA ABTWG in terms of comments and opinions on relevant BIAZA policy decisions and legislation and in the general admin of the ABTWG.
- Acting as ABTWG member, available to support BIAZA’s Bird Working Group (BWG) and other subgroups where necessary, with a particular focus on the Animal Behaviour & Training Working Group.
- Attending and participating in Animal Behaviour & Training Working Group meetings and annual conferences where possible.
- Attending and participating in BWG meetings and annual conferences where possible.
- Contributing to comms and resources when appropriate, for dissemination through existing communication channels e.g. BIAZA Bitesize, BIAZA Blog and social media.
- Liaising with the BIAZA Committees where necessary.
- Liaising with external groups and encouraging external partnerships where necessary.
- Producing ideas and plans for the future direction & development of the ABTWG.
