An exciting, term-time only delivery role in a work setting like no other. 

The Role

This is a key role working as part of our award winning Conservation Education and Engagement team, delivering our on site, outreach and virtual programme of workshops for schools, colleges and universities; assisting with the development of activities, workshops and high quality learning resources to support our programme.

As a Conservation Education Assistant you will: 

  • Work alongside our Conservation Education Officers to deliver Chester Zoo’s programme of activities for schools, colleges and universities
  • Deliver workshops in-zoo, virtually and as outreach
  • Work with colleagues to maximise conservation impact, achieve learning goals and improve visitor/audience experience by contributing to research
  • Manage resources
  • Support and work with volunteers
  • Support administrative tasks

The Package

  • Temporary fixed-term contract until 22 July 2025, on a term-time only basis (based on Cheshire West and Chester term dates)  
  • Working hours 35 hours per week (term time only), 9am-5pm with a 60 minute (unpaid) lunch break
  • Salary £21,752.97 per annum based on 35 hours per week (this will be pro rata’d to term-time only hours for the period of employment)

Our Requirements 

  • A good knowledge and an ongoing interest of zoo-based conservation and the natural world.
  • Outstanding communication skills, in particular verbal and written communication.
  • Experience of delivering engaging workshops to a variety of audiences including school aged children.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and time management skills.
  • Experience of working with volunteers.
  • A full driving licence valid in the UK is essential.

Although not essential, the following would be desirable: 

  • Experience of delivering engaging workshops to groups with additional learning needs.
  • A sound and up to date knowledge of the National Curriculum and safeguarding legislation and policies.
