NSWG

The objectives of the Native Species Working Group is to support those of the BIAZA Conservation Committee (CC) and wider BIAZA objectives where relevant

NSWG Objectives

a) Raise profile of native species with BIAZA members

b) Support and encourage BIAZA members to engage in UK conservation (both in-situ and ex-situ) and promote such projects internally and externally

c) Maintain communication between NSWG and other BIAZA working groups and committees and the Conservation Committee (CC) 

d) Provide guidance documents on NS husbandry and conservation work for BIAZA members

e) Encourage members to adopt evidence based adaptive site management (in conjunction with CC)

f) Establish and monitor Focus Groups for certain taxa when deemed necessary e.g. Reintroduction Advisory Group, Native Herps Focus Group.

Working Group Member Role Description

NSWG members contribute to the objectives of the NSWG in the following ways:

  • Attending and contributing to the annual BIAZA Conservation Conference and up to 4 annual, virtual NSWG meetings.
  • Assisting with organisation of the Conservation conference and meetings where needed.
  • Supporting the BIAZA office, contributing to new resources wherever possible and assisting with responding to queries from BIAZA members and other interested parties.
  • Contributing to CC & NSWG campaigns and communications, e.g. articles for BIAZA’s website, social media, presenting at regional meetings etc.
