The Raptor Foundation currently has a vacancy for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our team working predominantly with Birds of Prey, but also reptiles (particular knowledge/experience with this taxa would be advantageous).
The successful applicant will have an active keeper role assisting with the day to day running of the centre delivering high standards of husbandry & welfare to nearly 135 birds. The Raptor Foundation is a small cohesive team of keepers who work alongside an array of volunteers & interns. You must be approachable & confident & able to communicate well with staff & visitors & have an interest not only in captive animal care but also native wildlife & the care + rehab of birds of prey.
You will be required to:
Report to Team Leader & Senior Managment
Work alone & as part of a team
Have excellent customer service
- Be able to deliver 1 to 1 Animal Experiences with Birds of Prey, flying displays to a high standard (training will be given)
- Be able to deliver educational talks to primary-post 16 school groups on a range of subjects.
- Maintain & record animal observations
- Have good organisational skills & the ability to multi-task
- Initiative to continually strive towards improving the centre & care for birds, including aviary maintenance and grounds maintenance
- Have knowledge of relevant best pratice, statutory regulations and Health & Safety.
- Be prepared to take part in outreach activities off site & fundraising events (will need to drive company van)
- Attend regular keeper meetings
We are looking for:
- Animal science related qualification, Level 2/3 or equivalent DMZAA
- Minimum 2 years working within the sector. Existing experience with Birds of Prey & Reptiles is advantageous.
This is a full time postion working an average of 42.5 hours a week annualised and weekend working will be required. Salalry is paid the last Friday of the month and holiday entilement is 28 days.
