Here at Call of the Wild Zoo we currently have a fantastic opportunity to join our keeper team, working primarily on our LVI section as an experienced/senior keeper. The ideal candidate for this position is an enthusiastic, highly motivated and reliable individual, someone who can work effectively by themselves as well as the other members of the LVI and wider keeper team.

The successful candidate will be working with a variety of different species, including but not limited to, tomistoma, Asian water monitor, reticulated python and beaded lizards. The keepers on this section also oversee our tropical house which includes many different species of free flying bird as well as the plants in there too, so a broad knowledge and experience of reptiles and birds would be beneficial. Daily routines and tasks to be undertaken include daily husbandry tasks, enclosure maintenance, gardening, public experiences, educational talks.

An ideal candidate would have experience working in a zoo environment previously, have exceptional time keeping skills and able to priorities their daily routines. An attention for detail is crucial for this role as there is a lot of observations and record keeping that needs to be undertaken. The ability to do public educational talks and confidently speaking to the public answering questions is also vital. This is a physically demanding role that involves a lot of heavy lifting, bending and kneeling down, working in the heat and humidity of the tropical house, as well as other labour intensive tasks, so the ideal candidate must be physically fit and able to complete these tasks.

This position is full time, 5 days a week working 40 hours over the course of the week. The candidate will expect to work on a flexible rota including bank holidays and weekends. Starting salary for this role is £25,708. The successful candidate will be entitled to 28 days of annual leave over the year from January to December and holiday is to be taken out of school holidays, but there are exemptions under managements discretion.
