An opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join our committed and friendly team of volunteers.
We welcome applications from candidates with a keen interest in animal husbandry and conservation. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate that they are team orientated, hardworking, proactive, and positive in their attitude to all tasks.
This is a one day a week voluntary position lasting 6 months working from 8am until 5pm (winter hours may vary).
Species and breeds held on section:
- Birds of prey (Owls, Falcons, Eagles, Hawks, Buzzards, Vultures)
- Water Fowl
- Poultry
- African Crowned Cranes
- Pheasant (Gold)
- Emu
- Spix Guan
- Village Weavers
- Parrot species (Military Macaw, Cockatiel)
- Tortoises (Aldabra, Red Footed, Sulcata, Leopard)
- Snakes (Royal Python, Bredls Python)
- Lizards (Blue Tongue Skink, Beaded, Fat Tailed Gecko, Tokay Gecko)
- Invertebrate (Sun Beetles, Giant Land Snails, Cockroaches, Stick Insects)
Day-to-day tasks:
- Assisting with daily cleaning
- Food preparation
- Creating and providing enrichment
- Assisting with basic health checks
- Assisting with enclosure maintenance i.e. re-perching aviaries
- Helping with crowd control and set up of daily bird of prey displays (there may be opportunity to take part with flying birds, but this is not guaranteed)
