Zoo Curator

Responsible to the Zoo Manager for contributing to corporate and departmental objectives through the effective, efficient and economic management of the zoological gardens and other facilities.  Assisting the Zoo Manager to manage the Zoo premises and activities required by regulation and legislation to develop the service to its full potential.

Deliver the operational objectives of a business plan by the effective and efficient management of resources and be responsible for:

• Motivating and managing assigned staff in an efficient and effective manner;
• Managing all health and safety requirements;
• Ensuring the cleanliness, safe condition and maintenance of all designated areas;
•  Delivery of a quality service to agreed standards including the council’s Customer Complaints Procedure, Human Resources and Financial Procedures;
• Responsible for the general welfare and husbandry of Zoo animals within designated areas;
• Assist in managing budgets and financial matters including procurement and quotations etc;
• Act as a single point of accountability within designated areas and provide cover during periods of absence of colleagues; and
• Act as a Duty Officer including open/close facilities on a rota basis.

Responsible to the Zoo Manager for assisting in the delivery of a coordinated approach to the programming of activities across the designated section within the Zoo and provide cover in other sections, if necessary.

Represent the Zoo Manager as required within the post holder’s area of responsibility.
