About the Role:
In February 2025, Hamerton Zoo Park launched a new initiative, aimed at expanding and enhancing the educational facilities available to the public. This includes both formal and informal learning strategies, public engagement activities, and corporate events.


We are seeking a passionate and creative individual to join our team as an Education and Public Engagement Volunteer. This role involves supporting ongoing departmental work and helping in the development of new ideas, resources, and visitor experiences. Though open to all candidates, it is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience and build a strong foundation for a career in education, conservation, or animal care.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to health and safety requirements, this position is only available to those aged 18 or over.

Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may vary depending on departmental needs and your experience level but may include:
•    Supporting the Education Officer in developing and writing/designing educational talks, media, and/or presentations
•    Assisting with or independently delivering classroom sessions
•    Hosting keeper talks and answering the public’s questions throughout the zoo
•    Workshopping new ideas with the Education Officer, and assisting in their development where appropriate 
•    Assisting with general administrative tasks
•    Assisting with outreach events (e.g., school assemblies, summer fairs, careers events, etc.)
•    Contributing to the development and maintenance of the new zoo museum
•    Assisting the running of animal contact sessions for the general public

Candidate Requirements:
•    A genuine passion for animals and confidence in animal handling (species may include armadillos, snakes, cockroaches, duprasi, and skunks)
•    Prior experience in education or the animal industry is desirable
•    An A-level or equivalent qualification in animal biology, animal management, or another relevant subject
•    Reliable, hard-working, and able to work effectively in a small, dedicated team
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
