This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills in conservation and research and contribute to the work of the Trust.

The Intern will help with the work of the Conservation and Research Department. This will include the following activities:

  • Biodiversity surveys, notably small mammal surveying, but also including birds, invertebrates and vegetation for our British Raptor Programme and onsite surveying
  • Helping with our new ‘Raptor Risk Map’ project
  • Data management, analysis and report writing
  • Reviewing literature and online media
  • Aiding the Conservation and Research team in other daily activities where required

And may include, but not limited to, the following activities:

  • GIS training
  • Bird of prey surveys
  • Public engagement, education and assisting in various Trust events
  • Interpretation development
  • Creating and editing content for social media
  • Social media communications

This is a three-month internship, taking place between June and October 2026, making it ideal for inter-year students. There is the possibility of extension. Some weekend activities will be required and fieldwork often requires early starts and late finishes.

The ideal intern would have:

  • A passion for the outdoors and nature
  • Good field skills including bird and mammal observation and identification, and navigation skills
  • A full driving licence
  • Good people skills
  • Experience with talking to groups is desirable
  • Enthusiasm, commitment and reliability
  • A good level of fitness as some surveys can involve walking up to 10km/day.
