The Role
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Animal Keeper to join our dedicated animal team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hardworking individual with hands-on animal care experience who is passionate about maintaining excellent welfare standards and contributing to a dynamic zoological collection.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering high standards of daily husbandry across a mixed-species section
- Preparing and distributing diets in accordance with established feeding protocols
- Maintaining clean, safe, and enriched enclosures
- Monitoring animal health and behaviour, reporting concerns promptly
- Assisting with veterinary procedures when required
- Contributing to enclosure maintenance and development
- Engaging with visitors through talks, presentations, and positive public interaction
- Supporting conservation, training, and enrichment initiatives
Essential Requirements
- Minimum one year of practical experience working with animals (zoo, wildlife park, farm, or similar setting)
- A strong understanding of animal welfare and husbandry principles
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
- Full, clean UK driving licence
- Willingness to work weekends, bank holidays, and in all weather conditions
Desirable
- DMZAA qualification (Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals) or working towards
- Experience working with a range of taxa
- Basic maintenance or practical skills
