Set along the River Thames in Berkshire, Beale Wildlife Park is home to a diverse collection of mammals, birds, reptiles, and domestic species. We are committed to high standards of animal welfare, conservation, education, and visitor engagement.

 

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Animal Keeper to join our dedicated animal team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hardworking individual with hands-on animal care experience who is passionate about maintaining excellent welfare standards and contributing to a dynamic zoological collection.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering high standards of daily husbandry across a mixed-species section
  • Preparing and distributing diets in accordance with established feeding protocols
  • Maintaining clean, safe, and enriched enclosures
  • Monitoring animal health and behaviour, reporting concerns promptly
  • Assisting with veterinary procedures when required
  • Contributing to enclosure maintenance and development
  • Engaging with visitors through talks, presentations, and positive public interaction
  • Supporting conservation, training, and enrichment initiatives

 

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum one year of practical experience working with animals (zoo, wildlife park, farm, or similar setting)
  • A strong understanding of animal welfare and husbandry principles
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
  • Willingness to work weekends, bank holidays, and in all weather conditions

 

Desirable

  • DMZAA qualification (Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals) or working towards
  • Experience working with a range of taxa
  • Basic maintenance or practical skills
