This is an exciting opportunity to work with a variety of taxa. The contract will begin ASAP and end on 31st October 2026.
Main Duties
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Deliver high standards of animal welfare for all animals within the collection.
- Carry out daily husbandry tasks including health monitoring, enclosure maintenance and diet preparation.
- Undertake behavioural observations to ensure the continued health and welfare of the animals.
- Maintain accurate daily records relating to animal welfare, husbandry and health.
- Monitor diets in relation to the condition and life stage of each animal.
- Maintain stock control of animal feed and other consumables.
- Ensure all working areas, equipment and tools are kept clean, safe and tidy.
- Liaise with the veterinary team regarding any health concerns and follow instructions relating to medication and care, including administering medication when required.
- Identify potential routine or behavioural issues and implement appropriate solutions where necessary.
- Ensure the safety of visitors, staff and animals at all times, following all health and safety protocols.
- Support positive visitor experiences through good customer service and professional visitor engagement.
- Deliver Animal Encounters and Meet the Keeper sessions as required.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be confident delivering excellent standards of animal care and husbandry across a varied collection. They will be self-motivated, able to prioritise tasks effectively and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. An interest in, and experience working with, a wide range of taxa is essential.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of two years’ experience caring for animals in a similar setting.
- A degree-level qualification in an animal care related subject.
- Demonstrable experience of providing species-appropriate environments and enrichment.
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks across the site.
- Excellent observational skills.
- A full UK driving licence and own transport (Becky Falls is not on a public transport route).
Desirable
- DMZAA (Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals) or equivalent qualification.
Hours of Work
- 37.5 hours per week.
- Five days out of seven on a rota basis.
- Normal working hours are 09:00 – 17:00.
- Weekend and bank holiday working is required, and flexibility with working hours is essential for this role.
