Context:
This is an unpaid post for which you must have institutional support and you or your collection should be a BIAZA member.
The post is within the BIAZA VWG which falls under the BIAZA Species Advisory Committee (SAC).

Objectives of the VWG:

  • To assist BIAZA with the development of relevant BIAZA policies.
  • If necessary to act as a VWG representative to advise on the work of SAC working groups.
  • To advise on and disseminate information on legislative policy, and participate in consultation where required.
  • To provide a forum for discussion on issues of veterinary care (relating to general veterinary management guidelines rather than individual cases).
  • To liaise with and disseminate information from external bodies including European Association of Zoos and Aquaria Wildlife Veterinarians (EAZWV), British Veterinary Association, British Veterinary Zoological Society (BVZS)

VWG Member Role Summary:         

Key tasks include the following:

  • Assisting the BIAZA Office in relevant BIAZA policy development and implementation.
  • Assisting the BIAZA Office in liaising with relevant Government bodies with regards to veterinary and zoo licensing legislation and regulations.
  • Supporting the taxon working groups and subgroups (e.g. answering queries, sharing relevant updates, attending and presenting at relevant conferences and workshops).
  • Producing articles when appropriate, for dissemination through existing communication channels e.g. BIAZA Bitesize, BIAZA Blog and social media.
  • Liaising with the BIAZA Committees where necessary.
  • Liaising with external groups and encouraging external partnerships where necessary.
  • Producing ideas and plans for the future direction & development of the VWG.
