Zoo Ranger Position - Seasonal

(Average 40 hours per week)

As a member of BIAZA, EAZA, and WAZA, we are committed to delivering high-quality conservation education and inspiring our visitors to care about the natural world. Following exciting developments in our education centre and conservation programme, we are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic Seasonal Zoo Rangers to join our existing team.

This is a highly engaging, guest-facing role suited to individuals who are confident communicators, passionate about wildlife, and comfortable performing in front of large audiences. The position involves delivering a mix of educational talks, interactive displays & entertaining conservation shows, along with evening activities including our popular ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ behind the scenes tour, to bring our messaging to life in fun and memorable ways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging animal talks, presentations, and conservation-themed shows to large audiences

  • Assist in the development and delivery of both formal and informal education sessions

  • Lead and participate in public engagement activities, including animal walkthroughs and events

  • Support school visits and teaching sessions

  • Lead on our evening experiences and behind-the-scenes tours

  • Assist with basic animal husbandry duties where required

  • Participate in themed entertainment and character-based activities, including working in costume when required

Essential Requirements

  • A recognised qualification in zoology or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Strong knowledge of the natural world and animal behaviour

  • Excellent communication and confident presentation skills

  • Ability to engage and entertain large audiences

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and at short notice

  • Willingness to take part in costumed roles as part of guest experiences 

  • Full valid driving licence (essential due to variable shift times)

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Strong organisational and time management skills

  • Passion for conservation and the role of modern zoos in education

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in a zoo, conservation, or informal education setting

  • Background in performance, drama, or delivering interactive shows

  • Experience delivering animal handling sessions

  • Experience teaching a variety of age groups

  • Basic animal husbandry experience

  • Experience creating educational resources

 

Additional Information

Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is essential, including willingness to adapt working days and hours based on operational needs. This position is subject to a DBS check.
