BIAZA’s Communications Working Group (CWG) is looking for new members to join this exciting and strategic working group. The CWG is the strategic group assessing and responding to the communication needs in the sector and overseeing task forces such as the social media task force.
The Communications Working Group (CWG) brings together expertise from across BIAZA (including PR, marketing, social media management and public affairs) and external organisations (where relevant) related to relevant communication practices and operations for zoos and aquarium. This sits under BIAZA’s Mission Enabling Committee, however the group is relevant to lots of areas including commercial working group, and the Species Advisory Committee.
The Communications Working Group supports BIAZA and its Committees and Working Groups to:
- Embed and share good communications practices across BIAZA and the association’s membership.
- Assess risks and opportunities for the BIAZA membership and set out work to take advantage of opportunities and mitigate against risks.
- To support and encourage BIAZA and it’s members in their communications and provide guidance and practical assistance where necessary.
Method:
- Providing a hub and a focal point for communications expertise and development between individuals and organisations in the zoo and academic communities
- The Working Group will provide a strategic function and regularly meet to make assessment of ongoing risks, opportunities and challenges in the sector.
- Will found task forces (sub-groups) and workplans which will create guidance, opportunities and resources for use within the BIAZA membership.
- Will provide expert guidance to the BIAZA executive office to ensure effective communications.
- Will support BIAZA, its relevant committees/working groups, to run workshops, discussion panels, webinars and other such events where appropriate.
Members of the communications working group are expected to attend and contribute to quarterly meetings – 3 online and 1 in person, help organise the annual Communications and Marketing conference, and provide support for BIAZA and its members on an ad hoc basis.
The CWG is particularly keen to hear from smaller organisations and aquariums. This is a voluntary role and applicants must have institutional support from their BIAZA zoo or aquarium.
