Bird Keeper & Trainer Internship
Location: Millets Wildside, OX135HB
Position: Full-Time
Millets Wildlife Park is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our animal team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse collection of birds, including raptors and wetland species, while helping to deliver engaging free-flight demonstrations and memorable visitor experiences.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be involved within the daily care, training, and welfare of a variety of bird species. Working as part of a dedicated animal team, you will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of husbandry and assisting within presenting educational demonstrations that inspire our visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily care and husbandry of a range of bird species, including raptors and wetland birds.
- Preparation and distribution of diets.
- Monitoring animal health, behaviour, and welfare, reporting any concerns promptly.
- Maintaining enclosures, aviaries, and associated facilities to a high standard.
- Training birds for free-flight demonstrations and educational presentations.
- Delivering high-quality flying displays and animal experiences for visitors.
- Assisting with enrichment programmes to promote positive welfare.
- Maintaining accurate animal records and training logs.
- Supporting conservation, education, and public engagement initiatives.
What we are looking for
- Experience with birds and/or birds of prey preferrable
- Passionate, willingness to learn and develop
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, flexible, and willing to work weekends, bank holidays, and busy seasonal periods.
