This is a voluntary post for which you must have institutional support and be a staff member at a BIAZA Full Member. The post is Chair of the Environmental Impact & Sustainability Working Group (EISWG) which is part of BIAZA’s Mission Enabling Committee (MEC). Applicants are expected to have experience in sustainability, responsibility for sustainability within their organisation and a good understanding of upcoming regulations.
ROLE SUMMARY: to lead EISWG to encourage an environmentally sustainable approach in BIAZA and its members, raise sustainability and climate change awareness and provide guidance to assist in these objectives. To deliver positive behavioural change within BIAZA members and stakeholders.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The EISWG Chair contributes to the overall objectives of the group by:
- Organising EISWG meetings: Between 3 and 5 meetings are usually held each year, most are online but one per year is typically in person, at a BIAZA member zoo/aquarium.
- Supporting the BIAZA office in contributing to new resources wherever possible.
- Being the main point of contact for sustainability questions from BIAZA members and other interested parties.
- Assisting with development and review of relevant BIAZA policies.
- Contributing to relevant comms, e.g. articles for BIAZA website, presenting at conferences etc.
- Helping to establish links between BIAZA and appropriate external organisations and agencies.
- Encouraging adoption of best environmental practice models and sharing of emerging best practice.
- Encouraging monitoring of environmental performance relative to key performance indicators.
